Galaxy Game Design

The challenge was to build an interactive Adobe Animate game using ActionSfcript3 from three bare bones game build templates. After deciding on a strategy defense game template, I set to work on creating a game plan.

Character Design

Concept Art

The concept idea of the game came to me from the new animated Netflix series: She-Ra and the Princess of Power that I was watching with my daughter. The theme and aesthetics in the show inspired the direction I ultimately went with, and Pinterest helped fuel my ideas. Drawing from these particular images, I took to Adobe Illustrator, where I created the vector assets I would need for my game.

Character Animation

With the character design completed, I imported everything into Adobe Animate and set to work with rigging the animation. This was the most time consuming part of the project, as each character required various states to switch between, depending on what was happening in the game. To add an additional level of detail, I decided to create a specific attack for each enemy type, in order to emphasize the rock-paper-scissors mechanic of the game.

Animation & Composition

With all the animation and rigging completed, I was able to focus on the nitty gritty programming details of my game. I strongly recommend that you refer to my Rhetorical Report for a breakdown of my game in ActionScript3 and Adobe Animate. There, I explain my process of creating the end product.

I hope you enjoy!
